Here is a short walk around video of the Cisco Cius:

1st impression is that is it small, very small. Not sure I would like to trade my iPad for it. It also look pretty cheapy compared to the iPad. A lot of plastic and the seames ane not lining up very tightly. I hope this is just a fact that this is a demo unit and that he final product will have a “tighter” look to it.

Thickness wise it look to be about twice as thick as the iPad… so loosing points here. The tablet is positioned by Cisco for the enterprise and this is a good thing because I can’t see someone wanting this over an iPad (unless they are Android fans).

The UI on display look very iPhonish. Too bad we where not allowed to play with the actual thing.

Update:

Here are the specs for the unit:

Android and features a 7-inch high-resolution color screen

Intel Atom 1.6-GHz processor

32GB of flash memory to store marketplace apps

a detachable/replaceable 8-hour battery

802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and 3G/4G data

Cisco collaboration applications

an HD soundstation, HD audio

720p HD video with Cisco TelePresence for video conferencing and integrated security

I am a bit puzzled by the Atom 1.6Ghz processor. Atom and battery life don’t go along so well… but Cisco claim 8 hours of battery life… so.

We admit, we were pretty stoked when we first saw the Acer Aspire One AOD250 running Android in dual-boot mode. What could possibly be bad about it? Fast start-up, Google apps… other good things that aren’t coming to mind at the moment… what could go wrong? Turns out, just about everything. See, the Aspire One AOD250 has an unfortunate lack of Google blessing, so that means no Gmail, which is really Android’s killer app, and no Marketplace either — so no opportunity to track down a different killer app. You can use your Google account for hooking up with Gcal, Gtalk and Google Contacts, but your Gmail account gets set up as a webmail shortcut to the included Firefox app — which does an alright, slightly hacked-on job of augmenting the standard Android browser, including support for Flash. Unfortunately, with connection woes over WiFi and Ethernet (as seen on the video), there wasn’t much redeemable even there, and perhaps the best news about the device is that it can be fully booted to XP at any time by clicking on the corner of Android’s home screen. We still think there’s promise for Android on a netbook, but it’s going to need some serious TLC (also, Gmail) before it’s ready for prime time. Check out our video impressions after the break.

Acer’s Android netbook has been regular grist for the rumor-mill, with delays tipped, buyer apathy prediced, along with vehement denials from the company themselves. So it’s with no small amount of interest that we read one of the first reviews of the Acer Aspire One D250 Android – as the netbook appears to have been labelled – courtesy of ePrice. They found the AOD250 to be “semi-finished”, with Android perhaps unsurprisingly causing many of the issues.

The AOD250 dual-boots between Windows XP and Android, and at least that process is relatively straightforward. Twin power buttons might have been neat, but in fact you get a reboot dialog – which you can see in the gallery below – offering a choice of Microsoft’s or the open-source OS. Booting into Android took a mere 20 seconds, while shut-downs were almost instantaneous; however it seems that Acer have done little to rework Android to the larger netbook display.

The device will run Google’s Android software (not Microsoft’s Windows) and will be powered by an ARM CPU (not Intel’s Atom, or VIA’s Nano). While the device will be similar to an iPod touch, though slightly larger, it too will be without cellphone abilities.

According to reports, Dell began working on the device last year after failing to develop a device capable of competing with Apple’s iPod music players. The device may be available later this year, though the insider told the Wall Street Journal that such a plan could be delayed or scrapped entirely.

Another interesting twist is that the device, targeted at a point between MIDs and netbooks, would not be powered by an x86 CPU, which is the majority of Dell’s sales are to date (with other CPUs including Intel’s Itanium, scrapped several years ago). In its place, Dell will be turning to an ARM CPU of undisclosed specification, power and ability (as there are several varieties of ARM CPUs for all kinds of tasks).

The device isn’t up on their official website, yet, and I’ll update this post when that happens, but preliminary specs indicate a 3.2 inch screen, 320 x 480 pixels, 5 megapixel camera, 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor, 512 MB ROM, 288 MB RAM, 3.5 mm headphone jack, HSPA on the 900 and 2100 MHz bands, quadband GSM/EDGE, WiFi, GPS, compass and microSD slot. Oh and it runs Android, but not the stock Android, HTC thew in their own bits on top.
