Dell just announced the first shipping Moblin netbook, a developer-edition Mini 10v that runs Canonical’s Moblin Netbook Remix. No pricing info yet, but it’ll go on sale tomorrow, September 24, on Dell.com. We’re told they have units on the show floor for us to play with, we’ll be back with way more details soon.

The application suite is called Netbook Installer 0.8.2. Here is how it goes in 6 easy steps:

Restore OSX DVD (10.5.x or 10.6) to USB drive Run NetbookBootMaker (this version) to patch the [...]]]> dellmini9Meklort and a team of testers have brought a new application suite that allow one to easily install OSX Leopard or Snow Leopard on a netbook.

The application suite is called Netbook Installer 0.8.2. Here is how it goes in 6 easy steps:

  1. Restore OSX DVD (10.5.x or 10.6) to USB drive
  2. Run NetbookBootMaker (this version) to patch the USB
  3. Make sure Legacy USB is enabled in BIOS (for booting from USB)
  4. Boot Netbook to patched Install USB
  5. Install OSX 10.5.x, OSX 10.6 or upgrade from 10.5.x to 10.6
  6. Once the installation has completed remove your USB drive and reboot
  7. Enjoy OSX on your Mini!

Netbook Installer currently support Dell mini9, mini10v and the Lenovo S10.  Other netbook are alsoknown to work with Netbook Installer.

This release is offering the community to add support for other netbook on their own as long as you know how to edit and copy a few files.  More details on this can be found here.

The study conducted by Techaisle, a market research and consulting organization focused on Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies and Interactive Entertainment also found that 46 percent of small businesses that are “Likely to Buy” Netbooks currently use push email. These small businesses are tech savvy using databases, SaaS and collaboration technologies.

As per the study, ASUS brand with 52 percent penetration is strong among small business primarily due to early entry into the market and availability through online retailers and local VARs/Resellers. Dell and HP are stronger players with higher penetration within Mid-market and Large Businesses.

According to reports, Dell began working on the device last year after failing to develop a device capable of competing with Apple’s iPod music players. The device may be available later this year, though the insider told the Wall Street Journal that such a plan could be delayed or scrapped entirely.

Another interesting twist is that the device, targeted at a point between MIDs and netbooks, would not be powered by an x86 CPU, which is the majority of Dell’s sales are to date (with other CPUs including Intel’s Itanium, scrapped several years ago). In its place, Dell will be turning to an ARM CPU of undisclosed specification, power and ability (as there are several varieties of ARM CPUs for all kinds of tasks).
