This ensure that no Apple files need to be re-distributed in AirPrint Hacktivator. The end result should be the same as versions 1.0-1.6: printing from your 4.2.1+ iOS devices to an OSX 10.6.5 shared printer.

This application is free way to activate AirPrint on OSX 10.6.5. The application is easy to use and won’t require you to manually modify your system files.

I tested this new version and all seem to be fine on my end. Let me know if you have issues with it.

While trying to find out what makes the printer sharing ticking during a remove and add operation I noticed that it was necessary to restart cupsd to make the remove/add/share action work. Rebooting the Mac will essentially restart cupsd and then removing/adding/sharing printers will result in them showing in iOS 4.2 GM devices. But rebooting is a pain and not necessary…

So the new version on AirPrintHacktivator will now “restart” the cupsd process after hacktivating or “de hacktivating” AirPrint.

This should help resolve the issues some people have seen when Printers would not show up after removing/adding/sharing them back in the System Preferences.

Grab the AirPrintHacktivator right here.

I have made some minor modifications to the AirPrint activation utility. It will now attempt to verify if your Mac run the appropriate versions of OSX and iTunes before letting you install the hack to activate AirPrint.

I have added an icon to the application to make it look a bit better… but really, the icon is a bit lame, sorry!

You can find the new version right here.

Hopefully these changes will raise awareness of when the system does not meet the minimum requirements for AirPrint activation.

The PLEX client rely on a server side (read Mac) component that act as a transcoding helper for all video served to the iOS devices. In some ways it is doing a similar job as the iPhone and iPad AirVideo server side application does… but in a much fancier Apple TV friendly way.

PLEX on the Apple TV is also freeing you from the shackles of iTunes by leveraging the PLEX Media Center running on your Mac. This is nice since right now, to play any personal video library, you need to interface via iTunes… and this is kind of annoying.

For the curious out there here is a short video of PLEX client for Apple TV2 in action:

The Software so far is nothing more than a proof of concept, which isn’t tested at all. However there are some known issues:

“Local Servers” screen does only update when you press the up or down button on your remote

Larger Sections timeout while they are loaded and do never show up

Only Video playback is working (no music files, no images, no App-Management)

For now all video files are forced to be re-encoded. Let’s hope that PLEX can address this and allow to stream iOS compliant files directly to the ATV2 in a way similar to what Airvideo does. Maybe the folks doing Airvideo could contribute a little of their knowhow to this project… or come up with their own client for the ATV2.

Anyway, this is looking really good for the future of Apple TV2 applications. Let’s hope that Apple’s next ATV2 iOS upgrade won’t throw too much of a monkey wrench to the JB community.

Adobe today announced the launch of Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9, the latest versions of the company’s consumer-grade photo and video editing software packages for Mac and Windows. It marks the first appearance of Premiere Elements for the Mac OS X platform.

Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9 feature all the tools users need to make the most of their photos and videos. Adapted from Photoshop CS5‘s celebrated Content Aware Fill feature, the content intelligence in the Spot Healing Brush analyzes what’s in the image and quickly de-clutters or repairs photos (like removing tourists from a crowded scene) with a swipe of a brush, magically filling in the background. Several new Guided Edit options walk users step-by-step through the process of achieving cool editing effects such as Out of Bounds, making an element of a photo appear to leap off the page in 3D, creating pop art masterpieces, or retouching made easy via the perfect portraits feature.

With Premiere Elements 9, users can create movies in just minutes with the help of intelligent tools that automatically fix audio problems, trim away bad footage, stabilize shaky shots and correct bad color and lighting problems. I also changed the way I build the list of users to terminate and how the termination look is performed.

I created a Google Code project called terminateall so you can take a look at the code and possibly enhance it if you wish.

Again, note that this application will terminate all other OSX users sessions so you get back all the system processing power to yourself. Useful when other users have left a browser session open with some Adobe Flash animation running.

Hardmac is reporting that a trusted source revealed that OSX might be re-branded under the iOS banner. The different iOS familly of products would be known as “iOS desktop, iOS server and iOS mobile”.

Would this mean that Apple would allow the familly of iOS applications on the app store to run nativelly on the iOS desktop? It would make sense. This would open the app store market to a whole new bunch of potential buyers… especially if Apple is truely coming out with a touch based iMac offering and the rumored touchpad for desktops…

iOS desktop would not necessarilly mean reduction of functionality for the users as some might jump to quick conclusion. It will rather mean a new UI and expanded access to a new application market for both users and developers. So use applications developed and delivered the traditional way or use the app store.

This would for sure require even more staffing for the app store review/approval as it will open the flood gate to many many more applications… but at the end it will benefit everyone in the iOS family.

It’s not out in the wild yet, but 10.6.2 has been confirmed to kill support for the Intel Atom processor, this is especially important for Hackintosh users who have hacked various Atom based netbooks to run Snow Leopard. So what should you do if you have an Atom based Hackintosh Netbook? StellaRolla recommends staying with 10.6.1 (or 10.5.8 if you’re running Leopard on your Hackintosh, sine 10.5.9 will likely have the same Atom problems) for the time being, otherwise you can try upgrading to 10.6.2 but run an older or modified kernel. I think I’ll just stick to 10.6.1 when the update rolls around, I have a lot of confidence in the Hackintosh community so I imagine there will be a workaround rather quickly.
