Google announced that they are getting into the Operating System business with Google Chrome Operating System. The new OS is described as their attempt to “re-think” what operating systems should be.
Google Chrome OS will be an open source, lightweight operating system that is initially targeted at netbooks.
Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. It should just work. Continue reading Google Announces Google Chrome Operating System – Mac Rumors

Netbook owners using Apple MAc hardware will be able to “Netbookify” a restored copy of OSX DVD on a USB stick. What this mean is that you will simply restore the legal OSX DVD installation to an 8GB+ USB Key then run a Mac application (windows should be available one day) called NetbookBootMaker.
Once the application has done a few things to the USB Key (like installing a boot loader (Chameleon), creating a custom extension cache including custom kext, etc you will be able to boot the netbook with it to perform the OSX install. Continue reading New Netbook OSX Installation Method on its Way

The Classmate (whether the convertible tablet or traditional, rugged “clamshell”) is more expensive than the average netbook. Intel would like you to believe that the ruggedness, form factor, usability, and hardware/software ecosystem add enough value that a premium price is justified.
The prices, in fact, are hardly “premium” ($500 for a small form-factor, rugged Windows [...]
